Reflections on a year, a moment at a time.

A good day this is, simply because its my birthday! if that was the only reason, life would be good, but it isnt, so life is fantastic, what makes it so fantastic is the contentment i have found in simple things, it is most satisfying to have evolved past the neurosis of the worldly chase, hey, dont get me wrong, im jewish, so neurosis is in my blood, ask woody allen, actually dont, anyways, right now life feels really really good, and if this is all there is, i mean this moment in time, and if my entire existence has led me to this point, as i sit here writting to who, i dont actually know, right now, its pretty much myself, then so be it, so i continue to compose, produce, n keep it real, maybe now is a good time to wish myself blessings n peace, n health for the year ahead, okay, its done, actually im going to hip you to my plans for the next 6 months, in short, its to finish a new album im writting, basically a hip hop album, with all kinds of influences, from xenophia to bee bop, im also in the process of writting and recording a new jazz quartet album, saxophone, double bass, tabla n piano, its gonna groove, the compositions are mainly based on short mantra like melodies, reminisient of old chassidic folk songs, this one is gonna be beautiful, so if you hip n got some love in those veins, write me something happy, n be just that, keep the peace, rus

The Beggining……..

Its been brewing inside for a while, a deep desire to communicate and share the elements of my world and reality, that create for me a meaningful and inspired life. To share the products of that inspiration and to communicate the truths i have discovered. The primaty expression for me is in the form of music, and my instrument of choice is the Saxophone, yes, music is my mistress. I do however consider myself as an eccentric creative, channeling whatever inspires me through the form of expression, i believe will best communicate it clearly, be that, music, poetry, theatre, or film.

In this space i am inviting everyone to share the meaningful aspects of their life journey, what moves you inside creatively and intellectually, and what wisdom you have to share and to others experience of life. For me this has been an intense journey, there have been moments of such craziness, i never thought i would never make it back, for years i oscilated between states of deep contenment and happiness, and the unstopable inclination to create the chaos that would destroy that peace. In the last 2 years i managed to put some very significant pieces together, pieces of what? pieces of myself, pieces of my history, pieces of my heart, and most significantly, pieces of wisdom and understanding that have brought me to a profound understanding of what it means to love, and to be happy. So now it has to be said, im not a hippy, crackpot, new age book smoking, kundalini stretching, deep breatihing, mantra singing, guru seeking spiritual freak show!

I believe that too many people on what is called the “spiritual path” are self involved and self serving. Caught up in the indulgence of themselves, at the expense of a basic expression of spiritual wisdom, which is simply to treat the world, people, places and beings around you, with sensitivity, compassion, consideration and respect.To me this is really the truest meausre of your evolution as a soul, human being and artsit, for surely the greatest art is to live artfully, this is my real interest, taking the wisdoms and truths i discover and placing them in creative contexts, to be explored and shared in a sphere that brings colours and sounds to them.

There is so much to say and so much that i want to express here, but all at once is like nothing at all, and i need a cup of coffee, so simply to say, that this is going to be an extremely candid and open space, I am planning on baring myself here, sharing intimately what i am percieving, experiencing and learning. I feel that the depth of ones artistic endevours is much more significant and meanignful, if they contain within them the reflectios of ones growth. I am going to be listing books that i am checking out, music that i am listening to and and creative stimulus that is moving to me. I will also be posting progress of my own creative endevours, which I hope you will find interesting and it would be very happy to have any input, insights and contributions to this space.

With the belief that this will draw like minds together, I am looking forward to connecting with and exchanging creative visions, ideas and possibilities, I am involved with a broad range of creative projects. I am currently working on a project that i started and have been evolving for the last 4 years, in short it is an exploration of Music written and composed during the Holocaust era, it is however explored from the perspective of the Jazz tradition, In 2004 I released and album of that work, check out the video i posted, that will tell you most of what you need to know, and give you a feeling of the music. I am also writting two new albums, both verydifferent and exciting, i will post some sound bites in the next few days.

So consider this space opened, bring some love, n some wisdom, n share whats making life magical, the magic sometimes comes in the form of struggle and pain, this is also good, explore with an open heart, making yourself truely available. Peace, rus
